The Urban Unusuals: Anna Hagemeier

During Berlin Art Week we equipped galerist duo Achenbach Hagemeier with an unu Scooter Classic to help them navigate Berlin’s eclectic art scene. What started as a project space in Wuppertal almost four years ago, has since evolved into two gallery spaces in Düsseldorf and Berlin. The gallery was founded by Anna Achenbach (née Hagemeier) together with her partner David Achenbach in Düsseldorf in 2017 and offers a platform for young and emerging artists. With this in mind, they opened their second gallery site in Berlin in February 2019 – where they attract both young artists living and working in the German capital as well as the emerging scene of new, young collectors coming from the tech- and startup background.

We accompanied Anna and David through a typical day during Berlin Art Week, where the gallery had a booth exhibiting the works of one of their artists and discovered how they’re trying to overcome the well-established and antiquated stigma of exclusivity of the art world in general and private galleries particular.

unu Partners: Vodafone's IoT-SIM networks our scooters

For our second product generation, we’ve used all of our in-house expertise to create a fully self-designed and developed scooter. Yet, there are some key features where we continue to rely on the experience of world-class partners. Right at the forefront: the connectivity of the new unu Scooter!

Thanks to Vodafone's global IoT SIM card, the new unu Scooters will be broadcasting on the Internet of Things for the first time. More specifically, our second product generation is equipped with smart features that enable new forms of urban mobility: With the help of the smartphone and the unu App, the digital key of the unu Scooter can easily be shared with friends and family. In addition, the scooter’s location and battery status can be seen in the app. Digital theft protection keeps the scooter safe and informs owners about any illegal movements of their scooter – these can then directly be shared with the police.

Explore with unu: Bauhaus tour in Berlin

2019 is the year of the Bauhaus. Ever since its establishment, the school has become a synonym for a certain type of modernism: functional, industrial, stripped and sleek. From typography at airports to iPhones, the ideals and aesthetics of the Bauhaus can be found in a wide range of contemporary product design. How can a school founded 100 years ago still have such a lasting impact on the design world and what can modern mobility companies learn from its ideals?

An update on the new unu Scooter from unu CEO Pascal Blum

Back in 2014, when my friends Mathieu and Elias and I launched the unu Scooter Classic, we dreamed of changing the automotive industry by connecting people for authentic and meaningful experiences, and making a true impact on reducing emissions. What seemed like a dream back then, in just five years turned into a major success story with more than 10,000 sold scooters and overwhelmingly positive feedback from our users.

The Urban Unusuals: On the road with the Molcho brothers in Vienna

NENI - these are the initials of the first names of Nuriel, Elior, Nadiv and Ilan Molcho. Since 2009, the brothers and their mother Haya have been running the famous NENI restaurants, bringing a mix of Mediterranean and oriental food culture to the European metropolises. What started out as a restaurant at Vienna's Naschmarkt has quickly achieved cult status in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Inspired by Persian, Arabic, French and Russian influences, every restaurant sees itself as a place of encounter and relaxed get-togethers. The focus here is on sharing food and, of course, celebrating shared moments of pleasure. Served in balagan style - which means sympathetic chaos - everyone can try everything. Almost as if you were a guest at the Molchos' home. This love and passion for good food combined with shared experiences and a familiar atmosphere are the hallmarks of NENI.

We met the brothers in Vienna to find out exactly how they use their unu Scooter in their everyday life and which Viennese spots they prefer to go to on their scooter.

For his film “Berlin Bouncer”, director David Dietl accompanied him, along with two other famous bouncers and gives a deeper insight into the otherwise so secretive business. We met Smiley for an interview to discuss places of calm and of uproar and what his unu Scooter enables him to do – because for over three years, Smiley’s mainly been getting around the city on our scooter.

Hannah Kori’s “The Stillness Is a Burn” Exhibition – Starting a Conversation on Emotions

unu was created to enable people to embrace the full potential of urban life. As a company, we celebrate the city and all it has to offer – not only by taking part in and consuming urban culture, but also by contributing to it. Inside our company, every single person is a personification of our brand values. One example is Hannah Kori, who – besides working as unu’s E2E manager for the Netherlands – creates and exhibits her own art in Berlin, thus contributing to urban life.
